Alzheimer's as Seen Through the Eyes of a Child

"Do you remember me Papaw?"

"Do you remember all the fun things we used to do?"

Sometimes whether young or old it is difficult to understand why things happen. Alzheimer's is particularly difficult for children to understand. "Allysimer's" as pronounced by a 3 year old, hopefully will offer some childlike understanding to all generations who may be touched by this disease.

Author Sharon Webb McMillin is a native of Kentucky where she lives with her four children. She is also the daughter of "Papaw" about whom the book is written. "Allysimer's" developed from her journal writings about her personal experiences with her father and his early journey into Alzheimer's.

Elizabeth Shortt illustrated Allysimers when she was sixteen as a junior in high school. Besides illustration, she paints murals, cards, and other commissioned art work. Originally from Ontario, Canada, she now lives in Kentucky.

Description of book:

"Allysimer's" is a little book, under 25 pages, written to try to give the reader some understanding of this devastating illness. Included in the book are the "10 warning signs; Is it Alzheimer's" & a heartfelt note from the author. It is my desire that you come away more informed, inspired to help, and with a "little" smile from this "little" book called "Allysimer's".

A copy of the book can also be found in the Alzheimer's Association's Benjamin B. Green-Field Library, the nations largest Alzheimer's Library, located in Chicago.
